Plastic Dolls had wide range of uses in a number of things ranging from kitchenware to bath supplies and different toys, dolls also. Plastic dolls have gained popularity because of its affordability as compared to other kind of toys. Plastic dolls have sturdiness in material, plastics are quite durables and its characteristic definitely adds a different dimension to dolls.
Plastic can be easily molded into shape of dolls as compared to wood and other materials and so producing plastic dolls are not labor intensive. Various designs can be changed by merely changing the molds.
Most of dolls until 20th century were breakable and fragile. With advent of plastics unbreakable dolls were possible to make. Most plastic dolls are made from vinyl or (PVC) polyvinyl chloride. The basic building block of PVC is vinyl chloride which is converted into PVC by suspension process. Certain dolls are also made up of polyethylene. Dolls made out of hard plastic are more durable then composition dolls, and hence better suited for children’s play.
Plastic dolls are created in molds and so a mold like is generally visible on sides of every body part. Doll’s torso is formed in two parts, back and front, which are glued together. Earlier dolls were made by connecting body parts with an elastic cord or rubber band and certain dolls were made with walking mechanism that was fitted inside doll’s body. Plastic dolls are formed of pale plastic dolls in flesh and then after that it is painted with a darker tone of flesh color. Later on features are painted like nail polish, blush on cheeks, eyelashes, lips etc.
